But I do want to be rich!

So, you want to get rich, stop working and live comfortably? It’s the dream of so many to not just retire early but to know you will be ok.

This isn’t as hard as it seems. But I’m also here to tell you: you don’t actually want to get ‘rich’.

The first thing we did when we were looking at how we might be able to retire early was to look at what we needed to stop working and still live a comfortable life. Sounds simple, right? It’s not. The answer to the question “what does comfortable look like” depends on each person and their unique situation.

The answer will depend on your investment strategy, your expenses, your age, and your lifestyle.

But above all that, the answer also includes what it means to you to be ‘financially independent’. And this is a very different concept to trying to ‘get rich’.

Who doesn’t want to get rich?

Remember when you were a kid and you found $50 on the ground and you thought you were ‘rich’? For some people, being ‘rich’ means they have dinner every night. To others, it means $100. For some, it may even mean more than a million…
